Responsibilities
The Department’s Investigative Services Division is responsible for both the proactive and reactive investigation of crimes against both persons and property. Some of the additional responsibilities of the Division include crime scene processing and evidence collection, background investigations of new police employees and investigations related to Alcoholic Beverage Control and firearms permit applications.
Detective Bureau
The Detective Bureau is currently staffed by six Detectives who are responsible for conducting general investigations, with one Detective specifically assigned to investigate all matters directly related to the involvement of juvenile offenders. Other Detectives are assigned to handle evidence and identification functions, Megan’s Law registrations, bias crimes, narcotics investigations and sexual assault investigations. The bureau is overseen by Captain Mary Nelson.

Special Enforcement Unit
The Special Enforcement Unit is supervised by D/Sgt. Stephen Cilento and has 2 detectives assigned to it as well as other officers who are assigned there on a temporary basis to assist with investigations. They investigate quality of life complaints related to narcotics and other illegal activity and also assist with larger investigations.
